Interfax: China using new “Night Crawler System” to monitor internet and close unregistered websites

From Interfax:

The Chinese government is using a new internet content management system named the “Night Crawler System” (pa chong) to block access to websites that have not been registered with authorities as of the June 1 deadline established by the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) in March of this year…

Authorities have now begun using the “Night Crawler System” to locate and block access to websites that have not yet been registered with authorities. The new system is a real-time monitoring system that operates automatically, an official with the Shanghai Communications Administration (SCA), who wished to remain anonymous, told Interfax. The SCA is the Shanghai arm of the MII.
