BEIJING’S reluctance to use outside help with media relations and security is putting the 2008 Olympics on a path to disaster, experts claim.
As the world spotlight swings to Beijing with three years to go before the 2008 opening ceremony, the top media official for the Beijing Olympics told The Australian in an interview he would not speak with foreign journalists by telephone in case they were from the outlawed spiritual group Falun Gong.
Proper security planning for the Beijing Games is also being hampered by Beijing’s reluctance to seek international help on sensitive issues, a top consultant to the Beijing bid said.
