New rules for news Websites – Zhu Shenshen

From Shanghai Daily:

China published new guidelines on Websites that provide news to better regulate the country’s rapidly developing online industry.

The rules, issued yesterday by the Ministry of Information Industry and the State Council, China’s Cabinet, will “standardize the management of news and information” in the country, the government said.

The rules went into effect immediately after they were announced.

Any online news service found reporting false or distorted information faces a fine of up to 30,000 yuan (US$3,700) under the new regulations.

The full text of the new Internet regulation is here (in Chinese).
