Accession has brought change to China and WTO – Howard Winn

In the nearly four years since it joined the World Trade Organization,China has become the world’s dominant manufacturer of goods ranging from T-shirts to mobile phones.

Its trade with the rest of the world more than doubled from $509.8 billion in 2001 to $1.2 trillion in 2004.

Sometimes, as in this year’s surge of textile exports to the United States and Europe, the expansion has unsettled markets and competitors.
