Brushing aside democrats’ demands for a timetable on universal suffrage, President Hu Jintao called on Hong Kong Friday to accept what’s being offered on political reform.
There was no indication that Hu was prepared to condone any compromise on the government’s political reform plan and the underlying message was that Hong Kong could take the reforms or leave them.
