Twenty-seven people in northern China were being tried for their involvement in a violent clash over land that left six dead, the government said Friday.
The trial opened Thursday in Hebei province, where villagers protesting compensation for land seizures were attacked in June by unidentified men armed with guns and knives.
Those being prosecuted include He Feng, former Communist Party secretary of Dingzhou, where the attack took place, and Zhang Li, a contractor, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
They were charged with “intentional injuries,” Xinhua said, adding that Zhang plotted the incident with her husband. The report did not give any more details on who else was charged or how they were involved.
