The isolationist creed of the 1920s and 1930s could make a comeback, U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez warned.

The Cabinet figure addressed students at China’s Chongqing University on Monday, cautioning the Asian nation that it needs to directly address American trade concerns.

If not, the secretary warned, protectionist sentiment in the U.S. may balloon.
