Former Minister blames Super Girl – Zhong Bei

From Shanghai Daily (link):

CHINA’S former Minister of Culture, Liu Zhongde, criticized the popular TV show Super Girl for “harming youth education” and blamed the TV industry authority for poorly supervising the program, People’s Daily reported on its Website today.

“Though Super Girl is warmly welcomed by audiences, the viewer market really can’t decide on these types of concerns as a whole. We have to consider what aspects it does effect, the positive and the negative?” emphasized Liu, who is now a member of the standing committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Super Girl, the Chinese version of “American Idol,” is one of China’s most popular TV contests. Hosted by Hunan Satellite TV, this year’s preliminaries will be held in five designated provincial capitals – Changsha, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Guangzhou.
