Taiwan denies Solomons meddling – Denis Peters

From The Daily Telegragh (link):

A TAIWANESE representative in Australia has denied any political interference by his island state in the political affairs of the Solomon Islands.

Dr Gary Lin says the tensions in the Solomons which led to the looting and burning of Honiara’s business district this week are much more complex and deep-rooted than animosity towards the Chinese population there.

“I have noted some of the allegations (in the media) but I must point out that Taiwan is not involved in any way in the election of the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands,” Dr Lin said.

“We would like to categorically deny that we provide any money to any political leaders in that country.”
