Site 1083UNESCO has threatened to delist one of China’s World Heritage areas if the Government proceeds with a plan to reduce the site by 20 per cent and allow mining and dam development around the remaining area.

The Three Parallel Rivers is a pristine site in Yunnan province that covers the upper reaches of three big rivers in south-western China.

Local media has reported that the central and provincial governments are keen to develop Yunnan, one of China’s poorest areas. [Full text]
