China’s economy expanded 10.7 per cent in 2006, the fastest pace since 1995, as investments and exports continued to rise strongly despite the government’s cooling measures.
The continued fast growth has helped China surpass Britain to become the world’s fourth largest economy last year and to draw near Germany, the third largest following the US and Japan.
Xie Fuzhan, head of the National Bureau of Statistics, said China’s gross domestic product grew 0.3 percentage points faster than a year earlier, to reach Rmb20,900bn. [Full Text]
