Chinese activist honoured by human rights group – Radio Australia

A blind activist who exposed government abuses of China’s one-child policy has been honoured at the 2007 Index on Censorship Freedom of Expression awards in London.

Chen Guangcheng was among the five “defenders of free speech” recognised by the Index on Censorship human rights organisation.

An imprisoned Egyptian weblog writer, an assassinated Arab journalist, a campaigner for equal rights for women with HIV-AIDS and a film maker who documented the Israeli pull-out from the Gaza Strip were also honoured. [Full Text]
