Hong Kong’s Foreign Maids Bristle at 10 Dollar a Month Pay Rise – Deutsche Presse-Agentur

The Southeast Asian maids of Hong Kong, famous for lining the city streets to socialize on Sunday, their day off, have staged a protest to decry a minimal pay rise announced by the Hong Kong government on Tuesday. From the DPA, via Earthtimes.org:

Representatives of Hong Kong’s 200,000 Filipino, Indonesian and Thai domestic helpers staged a protest Wednesday after receiving a pay rise of just 10 US dollars a month. A group of foreign domestic helpers held up banners outside the city’s Central Government Offices describing as insulting the pay rise which takes their minimum monthly wage to 445 US dollars.[Full text]
