China Fires Up Its Largest Toxic Waste Furnace – Yu Dawei

China may become a huge market for garbage treatment services, and a French-Chinese-Hong Kong joint venture is testing the waters with the country’s largest incinerator for toxic rubbish.

The venture co-owned by Suez Environment Group of France , Shanghai Chemical Industry Park and Hong Kong New World Development Co. , installed the incinerator July 18 to dispose of industrial wastewater and hazardous materials, giving a much-needed boost to China’s overburdened system for waste disposal. The incinerator, developed by Suez, can handle 60,000 tons a year. It will serve industries in the Shanghai park and elsewhere. [Full Text]
