Relations between Taiwan and mainland China are pretty bad at the present, right?
If so, someone forgot to tell the hordes of Taiwan businessmen living in China, the considerable numbers of tourists, especially Taiwanese, making their way across the Taiwan Strait and the small, but significant, number of students, lecturers, researchers and others from Taiwan and the mainland involved in educational and cultural exchanges.
Although relations at the government level are rocky on core political issues, at the non-governmental level, and in some governmental civilian exchange activities, there is a robustness and vibrancy that is often overlooked in cross-Strait relations.
