For those who can’t wait to get started on Olympics competition mania, Reuters has posted a comprehensive list of details for each of the 28 sports, including number of spots available and final qualification events,Reuters via the Guardian.
According to Reuters, a total of 10,500 athletes are expected at the Games, compared to 10,625 from 201 nations in Athens in 2004. As host country, China is guaranteed competitors in all sports. Some sports issue places to specific athletes, others to countries’ National Olympic Committees for them to allocate. Sports also have ‘invitation places’, decided by an IOC commission.
