The 11th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opens on March 3 in Beijing, and many new faces appear. According to the roster of the members, 1,232 out of the total 2,237 are first-timers, taking up a 55-percent share. Among them 39.9 percent, namely 892 members are from the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Looking closely, the composition of this round of CPPCC features four new trends: new leadership from the Party; the democratic parties have transited to a new generation; “New Class” shapes up; and the “1980s-born” debut.
Among the first-time members of CPPCC, there are Du Qinglin, Chief of the United Front Work Department; Sun Jiazheng, Minister of Culture; Li Jinhua, Auditor-General of the National Audit Office; Wang Xiaofeng, General Director of the Three Gorges Office under the State Council; Zhang Weiqing, Director of the National Population and Family Planning Commission; Chen Yunlin, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council.
