AP Interview: Taiwan’s Top China Negotiator Reassures US On Mainland Ties

From AP:

Taiwan’s top China negotiator said Thursday the rapid development of relations with Beijing is not a threat to the United States, Taipei’s most important foreign partner.

Chairman Chiang Pin-kung of the quasi-governmental Straits Exchange Foundation spoke less than a week after signing agreements in the Chinese capital on expanding charter flights between the sides and allowing greater numbers of Chinese tourists to visit Taiwan.

The trend continued Thursday, with the Cabinet announcing that all Taiwanese will now be allowed to use ferries linking the offshore Taiwanese islands of Kinmen and Matsu to the nearby Chinese mainland — not just Kinmen and Matsu residents and Taiwanese businesspeople working in China.
