Lin Miaoke, a cute Chinese girl, is by now a poster girl all over the world. There’s yet more to come about her. Here is a brief round up, translated by CDT from news stories and blogs:
Lin Miaoke became famous overnight after the Olympics opening ceremony, and her value has also skyrocketed. A film, based on the novel “Strive” by Zhang Yiyi, will star Lin as a florist girl. Although the role is only three minutes long, according to a report, but she will be paid 600,000 yuan.
Novelist Zhang Yiyi said this is a great deal, describing it as a friendly discount. “Her value is way more than this, and it’s definitely going to keep rising.” This, if it materializes, won’t be Lin’s first gig. She shot a commercial with Chinese diva Zhang Wei at age six. It’s said that she signed up with a talent firm and demand has been very strong, and among her co-stars is Liu Xiang, the much anticipated 110-meter hurdler in this Olympics.
Lin’s father, Lin Hui, dismissed the “rumors” and hopes that his daughter will concentrate on her studies instead, according to the Beijing News. “I don’t know Zhang Yiyi and haven’t ever met him,” Mr. Lin said. Asked whether he would allow his daughter to take part in the film, he said he hasn’t thought about this as nothing has happened yet. And he hopes that the attention on his daughter will return back to normal.
Here are more photos from a photojournalist, a friend of Miaoke’s father, who is also a photojournalist. The photographer snapped a number of shots of the new child star outside the Bird’s Nest an hour before entering the real opening ceremony. One shows the girl with her parents. Asked “Are you nervous to appear in front of tens of thousands of spectators?” Miaoke immediately put her index finger to her lips, saying “Shhh! This is a secret, don’t spread it around.”
