50 Miners Killed in 2 China Mine Blasts

AP reports on the latest mining disasters in China:

The official China Daily newspaper said 37 miners were killed in a gas explosion before dawn Sunday at a private mine near Dengfeng city in Henan province in central China. Rescuers were searching for nine others.

A notice on the Web site of the State Administration of Work Safety said Sunday that 108 people were underground at the time of the explosion, and 64 escaped. An additional seven were later rescued alive.

[…] Xinhua also reported Sunday that 19 miners were killed and 12 were still missing after a coal mine fire Saturday in Hegang city in Heilongjiang province in northeast China.
