Costa Rica Switches Allegiance from Taiwan to China

Costa Rica has diplomatically recognized China, severing its ties with Taiwan. From the Keralanext.com:

Costa Rica on Thursday entered a new phase in its relations with China after severing ties with Taiwan, acknowledging that Beijing’s growing might had finally trumped its long allegiance to Taipei. [Full text]

Marianela Jimenez from the AP reports that many Latin American countries are gravitating towards China out of fear of exclusion from its expanding economy. Also Taiwan has been accused of providing insufficient aid to its allies. Read Costa Rica Criticizes Taiwan As Stingy, via Delawareonline:
