Trapped Workers Rescued from Flooded Mine – Lydia Chen

An update on the group of miners trapped by rainwater in a Zhijan mine. From Shanghai Daily:

All 69 miners who were trapped in a colliery for more than 75 hours were rescued today in the most successful mine rescue in China in recent years.

Rescuers lifted the first batch of 31 miners to safety about 12:25pm at Zhijian Coal Mine in Shaanxian County, Henan Province, Xinhua news agency reported.

At 12:54pm, the last miner, Cao Baicheng, was hoisted to safety, wrapping up a three-day rescue operation that had become a nationwide concern, the report said. [Full Text]
