From The Australian:

The Howard Government will introduce special measures to protect Australian firms from being wiped out by cheap Chinese imports, as it steps up its campaign for a prized trade deal with Beijing.

But Trade Minister Mark Vaile said the Government was unlikely to negotiate over China’s questionable human rights record or workers’ entitlements as part of a free trade agreement.

John Howard will visit China in April and the Government hopes he will announce formal talks on a deal.
