Hong Kong interim leader Donald Tsang resigned on Wednesday in order to run for the city’s top political job in July elections, the government said.
Tsang has the blessing of Chinese leaders and is sure to win, political sources say, because the city’s chief executive is currently chosen not by Hong Kong citizens but by a Beijing-sanctioned electoral college of 800 people.
