World Overseas Chinese Media Forum to Convene in Wuhan in September – Zhu Jianling

From China Times, via Press Interpreter:

The Third Annual World Chinese-Language Media Forum will meet between September 21-30 of this year in Hubei Province’s Wuhan. The conference’s theme this year is “Globalization’s ‘China Fever’ in Overseas Chinese Media” and estimates that more than 300 representatives of over 200 foreign media organizations will participate. Communist Party Channel* officials will also attend, delivering a presentation on current Taiwan Strait relations.

The Forum is sponsored by the mainland’s “Chinese Press Agency” (CPA). CPA Editor-in-Chief Guo Zhaojin said the reason this year’s topic is “Globalization’s ‘China Fever’ in Diasporic Chinese Media” is that the Western media’s misinformation has created an exaggerated picture of mainland China’s economic and military strength. Inability to comprehend the PRC’s peaceful development strategy has created many obstacles for mainland China’s development, and Guo hopes the Forum can overcome these problems and bring about a more favorable public opinion environment.
