China has completed its first national economic census, an epic statistical survey involving 10m data collectors sent across the country to register large hubs of business not picked up in conventional reporting.
The census should also help improve the quality of Chinese economic statistics which, after years of criticism and promises of reform, remain confusing and unreliable in important categories.
