Chinese school authorities have overcharged students by millions of dollars and doctors have taken millions of yuan in bribes, a newspaper said on Friday, a day after a report revealed rampant graft throughout government.

The Communist Party’s top anti-corruption body found irregularities in education charges worth 1.7 billion yuan ($210.5 million) across the country from January 2003 to August 2005, the China Youth Daily said on Friday.
Medical workers, including doctors, took 250 million yuan ($31 million) of kickbacks and bribes in the same period, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said. A cabinet think-tank has called the medical reforms “basically unsuccessful” with the poor losing out while scholars criticise the “industrialisation” of education.
