One of the most radical opponents of Chinese Communist rule, who once planned to explode a hot air balloon above Tiananmen Square scattering pro-democracy leaflets, has been jailed for life on terrorism charges.
The People’s Intermediate Court in Wuhan, capital of the central province of Hubei, also convicted Peng Ming of kidnapping and possessing counterfeit currencies on Thursday and fined him 35,000 yuan, the official Xinhua news agency said.
“The court found that since November of 2000 Peng disseminated and pushed forward his violent and terrorist propositions through articles, publication of books, shaping teaching programs on terrorism and issuing articles on the Internet,” Xinhua said.
