China will struggle to keep its state secrets – group

From the Reuters: “The spread of technology and demands for more market transparency will make it impossible for China to prevent the release of all information deemed a state secret, a human rights group said on Thursday.

That could put pressure on China to reform its state secret laws, although the government is expected to continue to use such laws to silence dissent, New York-based Human Rights in China said.

“I expect in the next five to 10 years, there will be more reporting of news about things not going well in China,” the group’s research director, Nicolas Becquelin, told a Foreign Correspondents’ Club lunch in Hong Kong. ”
