Hundreds of people clashed with riot police in a village in southern China, leaving some villagers hospitalized, a news report said Thursday.
Hong Kong’s Cable TV broadcast footage from villagers that showed them scuffling with police in riot gear Tuesday. The station said hundreds of people took part in the clash in the village of Shadui.
The villagers are upset that the local government didn’t issue them certificates allowing them to vote in a village election Tuesday — allegedly in retaliation over a land dispute, Cable TV reported. [Full Text]
