Internet Joke: “You’re Asking Me?”

During a recent police crackdown on prostitution, several nightclubs were closed in Beijing. The following joke, which is circulating online and by text message, imagines the interrogation session between an escort working at the now shuttered Passion* nightclub:

Investigator: What’s your name?
Escort: You call me seven times a day and you’re asking me?
Investigator: … so Zhang Xiaohong, where do you work?
Escort: You go there seven times a week and you’re asking me?
Investigator:… so Zhang Xiaohong, how long have you been working at the Passion?
Escort: You came in on the very first day I started to work last year and you’re asking me?
Investigator: … so Zhang Xiaohong, in the year you have worked at the Passion, how many clients have you had and who are they?
Escort: How many people are in the government, you’re asking me?
