Censorship, Carelessness and Ignorance Spreads HIV in China

It’s predicted that by 2010, over 20 million people in China will be infected with the HIV virus. But the Chinese government is not educating its people about how to avoid this deadly disease: over 80% of its citizenry doesn’t know that condoms can prevent it. Chinese officials even filter out HIV information on the Internet. While the rural population in China probably wouldn’t benefit from that information being available online as they’re not likely to have Internet access, others might. Frankly, I am astonished that workers at government clinics in China either don’t know or care that dirty needles are causing plasma donors to become infected. Action needs to be taken. Millions of people in Asia are dying, and families of the infected are becoming impoverished trying to care for their HIV positive loved ones. Articles at BBC News: (1), (2), (3).
