More Accurate Information on China’s Surfers?

” Each click on the pages will be recorded in the company’s database, while the firm will also conduct off-line samples research to get the detailed information of the visitors, such as their sex, age, income and profession.” This quote is from a news article on Eastbay.com, the official Shanghai Daily’s English website yesterday. Here “the company” is Nielsen//NetRatings, a global Internet audience measurement and research firm. The news article said this company announced its plan to monitor visitor volume to China’s four largest portals to get detailed information of the surfers.

The article also quoted Zhou Lei, an Internet business consultant who said “Nielsen//NetRatings’ measurement is more advanced than that of CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center), given Nielsen’s worldwide network and rich experience in the field.”
