China Unicom to open 3,000 Internet cafes in tightly controlled industry

From AFP: “China Unicom, the nation’s second-largest mobile phone carrier, plans to open up to 3,000 Internet cafes by the end of the year, state media said.

This appears to be part of government plans to tighten controls over the Internet, which currently has close to 90 million users in China, by giving just a few top companies access to operate cafes.”
