Sales in the world’s third-largest auto market reached 2.3m in 2004, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce.

That compares with 2m in 2003, a sharp increase on the 1.2m sold in in 2002. Growth began levelling off last year, even as multinational carmakers rolled out ambitious multi-billion dollar expansion plans.”
