Alice Hung: Taiwan youth await China law with anger, composure

From Reuters AlertNet:

Young people in Taiwan are awaiting China’s passage of an anti-secession law that could give their giant neighbour a legal basis for invasion, some with fear or anger but some, apparently, without a care in the world.

China has claimed self-ruled Taiwan as a breakaway province since their civil war split in 1949. The new law, which tops the agenda at the parliament session opening in Beijing on Saturday, is expected to set out the circumstances under which China could attack to stop Taiwan moves towards formal independence.

“The so-called anti-secession law really pisses me off. It causes unnecessary tensions,” said Richard Cheng, on mandatory military service in central Taiwan.
