Bloggers Report Anti-Japan Protests

Chinese bloggers, including Drunk Dream and aqidesign have posted information and photos of violent protests in Chengdu against Japan’s UN Security Council bid. At 2:30 pm on April 2, students gathered at the Ito Yokado supermarket on Chunxi Road to protest Japan’s bid. When police tried to stop the demonstration, several protesters were hit and detained by police. Protests have also erupted in Shenzhen, according to Boxun.

Kyodo News Agency and Reuters have also reported on the incident. From Reuters:

Protesters smashed a local Japanese supermarket’s windows after a demonstration in China against Japan’s bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council turned violent, Kyodo news agency reported Sunday.

Protesters in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in southwest China broke the windows of Japanese-owned supermarket Ito-Yokado on Saturday, Kyodo said.
