The Japanese government has asked Beijing to guarantee the protection of its vast economic interests in China amid growing tensions over school textbooks and its campaign for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Hiroyuki Hosada, chief cabinet secretary, said Japanese officials had asked Wang Yi, China’s ambassador to Tokyo, to guarantee the safety and smooth functioning of Japanese businesses in China.
