Increasing rivalry between the two countries, for natural resources and recognition as the region’s pre-eminent ”along with the continuing potential for friction raised by the North Korean threat, Japan’s planned constitutional and China’s policy on ”makes likely that bilateral relations will remain troubled or worsen during 2005.
