On April 25, Shanghai’s party paper Liberation Daily published a official editorial titled “See the true nature of the protests; severely punish the illegal behavior,” about anti-Japanese demonstrations with very severe tone. Here is the article (in Chinese) posted on Xinhua.net.
“Abundant facts make evident that the recent illegal demonstration was not patriotic behavior, but violated the law; it was not the people’s spontaneous action, but there was a conspiracy behind the scenes.”
「大量事实证明，最近发生的非法游行，不是什么爱国举动，而是违法行为；不是什么群众自发的举动，而是有着幕后的图谋。」
This certainly reminded me of the April 26 Editorial on People’s Daily in 1989.
