China must be more transparent in its efforts to control the spread of the bird flu virus, and curb the use of human antiviral drugs to treat poultry, a senior UN official said.
The Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) chief veterinary officer Joseph Domenech said the reported use of human antiviral drugs by Chinese farmers was a ‘big concern’, according to Agence France-Presse.
‘The situation is still not clear and FAO appeals to the Chinese authorities to provide current information regarding the use of such drugs,’ Domenech told a three-day meeting of health and agriculture officials on the avian virus.
