Pact may ease U.S.-China trade friction – Mark Drajem and Allen T. Cheng

A tentative accord between the United States and China over a cap on clothing exports may ease a source of trade tension and smooth relations before President George W. Bush visits Beijing, economists have said.

Trade negotiators have agreed to raise the allowable growth rate in U.S. imports of Chinese pants, knit shirts, bras and other items to 10 percent in 2006 and to about 16 percent by 2008, representatives for both textile importers and producers said Saturday in Washington.
