The following is CDT’s translation of an official document about the closure of Freezing Point issued by the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Youth League. The original Chinese is below.
On Jan. 11, 2006, the „ÄäFreezing Point„ÄãWeekly published the article “Modernization and Historical Textbooks” by Yuan Weishi, a professor in the History Department of Zhongshan University. The article strives to reverse the verdict on the crimes of imperialists who invaded China, seriously departs from historical fact, seriously violates discipline of news propaganda, seriously hurts the feelings of the Chinese people, seriously damages the image of China Youth Daily, and causes harmful social influence. The relevant department of the Communist Party’s Central Committee raised serous criticism of this event.Because of China Youth Daily’s serious mistake of publishing “Modernization and Historical Textbooks,” the following measures will be taken:
1, Internally publicizing of the criticism of Li Erliang, the chief editor and deputy Party secretary of China Youth Daily, and Li Datong, chief editor of Freezing Point Weekly.
2, Ordering of the China Youth Daily to close Freezing Point and reorganize, and issuing of economic fines to relevant responsible staff. The closure and reorganizing of Freezing Point starts from Jan. 25, 2006.
We hope the China Youth Daily will learn deep lessens from this event; take seriously the work of reorganizing Freezing Point Weekly; correct the guiding policy of Freezing Point Weekly; improve political awareness, awareness of the big picture, and a sense of responsibility; strictly follow the discipline of news propaganda; and maintain the correct guidance on public opinion. On the basis of well-done reorganization, and the real correction of mistakes, the republication of the Freezing Point will be realized.

关于对中国青年报冰点周刊错误刊发《现代化与历史教科书》的处理决定
　　2006年1月11日，中国青年报《冰点周刊》刊发中山大学历史学教授袁伟时的文章《现代化与历史教科书》，极力为帝国主义列强侵略中国罪行翻案，严重违背历史事实，严重违背新闻宣传纪律，严重伤害中国人民的民族感情，严重损害中国青年报的形象，造成了恶劣的社会影响，中央有关部门提出了严肃批评。
　　鉴于中国青年报刊发《现代化与历史教科书》的严重错误，决定处理如下：
　　1、对中国青年报社党组副书记、总编辑李而亮，中国青年报冰点周刊主编李大同提出通报批评；
　　2、责成中国青年报对冰点周刊进行停刊整顿，并对相关责任人给予相应的经济处罚，冰点周刊停刊整顿自2006年1月25日起。
　　希望中国青年报社从这一事件中汲取深刻教训，认真做好冰点周刊的停刊整顿工作，进一步端正冰点周刊的办刊指导思想，增强政治意识、大局意识和责任意识，严格遵守新闻宣传规律，坚持正确的舆论导向，在做好有关停刊整顿工作、切实改正错误的基础上，实现冰点周刊的复刊。
