Business is rolling out the red carpet for Chinese President Hu Jintao.
Hu was to meet with Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates as part of a two-day whirlwind visit to Washington state that was also to include a stop at Boeing Co.
Hu’s plane landed at Paine Field in Everett, north of Seattle, where about 120 members of the Seattle Kung Fu Club and a handful of ribbon dancers from a Seattle elementary school were among a crowd gathered to welcome him. Paine Field sits next to Boeing’s giant widebody jet assembly plant.
Hu has set an ambitious mission for his four-day U.S. tour. It comes at a time of unease among American businesses, political leaders and the public about how China is using its new power.
