Ford Motor Co.said sales of imported and locally produced Ford brand vehicles in China more than doubled to 33,511 units in the first quarter, on increased production capacity and strong sales of new products.
The company didn’t give sales figures for the year-earlier period, but it said the sales were up 121% on the year, far exceeding the local auto industry’s average on-year growth of around 54% for the same period, Ford said in a statement issued during the May Day holiday.
The U.S. automaker said earlier it was aiming for a “significant” sales growth in China this year, but didn’t give a specific target. The company’s Ford brand auto sales rose 46% to 82,225 units last year, above the local industry growth of around 14%.
