Japan and China agreed to meet this month to discuss a dispute over development of gas fields in the East China Sea, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe said.
The schedule for the meeting will determined via “diplomatic routes”, he said at a regular press conference in Tokyo today.
The talks will be held next week in Tokyo, Associated Press reported, citing Abe.
The argument over drilling rights in the East China is one among a number of disputes that have strained ties between Asia’s two biggest economies. The countries are also arguing over Japan’s wartime aggression and other territorial issues.
