China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has again denied allegations of state control of news and information on the Internet.

“China is now home to more than 110 mln Internet users who are all able to get the information they want via the Internet,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson of China, Liu Jianchao, said during a press briefing on June 1, 2006.

According to rough statistics provided by Liu, China has more than 1.3 mln online forums which are frequently visited by Chinese netizens. “The government never controls the opinions of chinese netizens on the Internet.”
