Appeal Likely for Journalist at The Times – Jim Yardley

Lawyers for a Chinese researcher for The New York Times said on Friday that they would probably appeal his conviction on a fraud charge but also expressed satisfaction that a Beijing court dismissed a more serious charge of leaking state secrets.

The researcher, , 44, was found not guilty on Friday of leaking state secrets to The Times after spending nearly two years in prison in a case that attracted international attention and raised questions about the fairness of China’s legal system. [Full text]
