China Keeps Masses Out of Human Rights Exhibit – Lindsay Beck

China’s progress on protection of human rights was on display at a symposium on Thursday, but dozens of residents and petitioners were left outside, saying they were barred from entering.

The 10-day exhibition was aimed at recording efforts to “promote and safeguard people’s right to life and right to develop” in China, which executes more people and jails more journalists than any other country in the world.

“They won’t let us in. They’ll let foreigners in, but they don’t seem to be letting any Chinese in,” said an unemployed Beijing resident surnamed Jia, standing outside. [Full Text]
