Don’t believe the disinformation. Contrary to manipulated media reports, China has not changed its no-strings energy diplomacy toward Sudan.

Sources say Beijing has no intention of using its powerful political and economic influence with the mass murdering, Islamist-leaning regime of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to pressure it to stop the slaughter in Darfur.

The cleverly concocted story that Chinese President Hu Jintao told Bashir on Friday that Khartoum had to resolve the four-year-old conflict in Sudan’s western region is a deliberate falsehood. Hu merely suggested that Khartoum consider accepting United Nations peacekeepers in Darfur, where government-backed Arab militias known as the Janjaweed (“devils on horseback”) have been waging a genocidal campaign of rape and murder against local, land-tilling tribes.
